Mobile Library

Fernbank is on the far western side of the district, surrounded by open farmland and mountain views. Residents connected through the local CFA, community hall, conservation projects, and attract visitors featuring award-winning pottery and popular sculpture garden open days.

Flaggy Creek is a scenic rural locality north of the Mitchell River, where open grazing land connects to the Mt Alfed State Forest. With strong historic ties to the local forestry and timber industry, the area now features cattle and sheep grazing, small-scale cropping, and dairy production. A vibrant community spirit is maintained through the Bush Bulletin, CFA, Landcare, and local hall events, reflecting the area’s rich history and close-knit rural character.

Community assets and facilities:
Glenaladale is located on the eastern edge of the Lindenow district, on the north side of the Mitchell River. Forming part of the region’s highly productive agricultural heartland, the area is renowned for vegetable and beef production, grazing, and small-scale cropping, also hosting key water catchment infrastructure for the region. Glenaladale’s close-knit community supports the local CFA, the Lindenow South/Glenaladale Cricket Club, and host a variety of inclusive events at the Recreation Reserve, where the community hall and its hardworking committee offers a welcoming, distinctly rural environment.

Hillside is situated on the far eastern side of the district, on the south side of the Mitchell River. The area has a strong soldier settlement history and a long-standing connection to local dairy production, continuing today to support cattle grazing, wool, vegetable and broader agricultural activities. Close to Bairnsdale, Hillside offers residents the space and character of rural living while remaining conveniently connected to regional services and amenities.

Lindenow is the main business hub with a charming main street showcasing award-winning cafes, local shops, and historic buildings, and is renowned for its fertile floodplain, thriving agriculture, strong community spirit, and picturesque countryside just west of Bairnsdale.
Council-led Improvement Projects:
Replacing the old light towers and upgrading to compliant LED lights to improve training and competition facilities for the local football, netball and cricket clubs. The upgrade supports continued participation in local sport, community recreation opportunities and Inclusive sporting facilities increasing flexibility for facility use for both senior and junior sporting sides.

Lindenow South is a well-established rural community embedded in its farming heritage and historic railway connections that once served the district’s agricultural trade, the locality reflects a strong link to the region’s development. Known for its vibrant community spirit, with the Lindenow South Primary School, Recreation Reserve, local CFA, and sporting clubs at its heart, Lindenow South offers a connected, family-oriented rural lifestyle close to Lindenow and Bairnsdale.

Council-led Improvement Projects:
Construction of approximately 650 metres of concrete footpath and elevated boardwalk linking the primary school and recreation reserve, including upgraded bus shelters and bus parking areas to improve pedestrian safety. The project improves safe access for students, families and sporting participants and strengthens connections between key community facilities.
Installation of four 25-metre lighting towers with LED lighting to improve training and competition facilities for the local football, netball and cricket clubs. The upgrade supports continued participation in local sport, community recreation opportunities and Inclusive sporting facilities including women’s AFL participation.
