Councillor Briefings, while not formal decision-making forums, play a critical role in providing Councillors with the information they need to make well-informed decisions at Council meetings. They also provide an opportunity for Councillors to be briefed and discuss key matters affecting the community.
To strengthen transparency and build community understanding and trust in Council’s deliberative processes, East Gippsland Shire Council publishes summaries of the topics discussed at Councillor Briefings. These summaries provide insight into the matters presented to Councillors for information and discussion, while ensuring that any confidential or sensitive information is protected in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020.
At its meeting on Tuesday 21 October 2025, Council resolved to authorise the Chief Executive Officer to publish future Councillor Briefing summaries on Council’s website without the need for further Council resolutions, ensuring the community can easily access and understand the information that informs Council decisions.
