Home to 8,000 residents and one of Victoria’s premier tourism destinations, Lakes Entrance is beloved for its swimming beaches, waterfront cafes and commercial fishing boats.

Lakes Entrance and District comprises of the following localities: Lakes Entrance, Bullock Island, Kalimna, Kalimna West, Lake Bunga, Lake Tyers Beach, Toorloo Arm, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Mill Point, The Barrier, Nowa Nowa, Tostaree, Wairewa and Wombat Creek.

Set on the edge of Ninety Mile Beach where the Gippsland Lakes meet the ocean, Lakes Entrance is a significant commercial precinct and offers a range of lifestyle and recreational services, including health, retail and education.

A short drive from Lakes Entrance; Lake Tyers, Lake Bunga and Lake Tyers Beach offer real tranquility. Traditionally known as a tourist destination, Lake Tyers has a growing permanent population and a mix of permanent and holiday houses.

Nowa Nowa is the tribal area of the Krauatungalung People of the Gunaikurnai nation and we respectfully acknowledge past and present Aboriginal elders. There are strong historical links between the people of the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Wairewa and Nowa Nowa.

Bullock Island Master Plan Addendum

Current and future planned works, and more detailed planning around some of the public areas of one of Lakes Entrance’s most recognisable landmarks have been captured in a refreshed Bullock Island Master Plan.

The plan refresh, led by Council and with significant reference group input, will guide the investment into upgrades on the island. The work follows Council taking control of a large portion of the management of Bullock Island in late 2019.

The Bullock Island Master Plan addendum was adopted at the 1 September 2020 Council meeting to enhance the visitor experience maximise visitation and contribute to the visitor economy of Lakes Entrance and the broader region. We can now focus on delivering the projects outlined in this refreshed masterplan, including a tender for the Bullock Island Bridge. We have also engaged local civil design contractors Crossco to design the road and pathway works on the island.

Lakes Entrance Growth and Adaptation Strategy

Council, with support from the Victorian Government, is preparing a strategic plan for growth and adaptation in Lakes Entrance.

The strategy will provide a framework for ensuring Lakes Entrance can grow positively into the future, support the needs of residents, and adapt to any challenges that it may face because of change brought about by growth or climate pressures such as flooding.

We will work collaboratively with residents and business owners to deliver a strategy for a prosperous Lakes Entrance, which incorporates the aspirations of the community, creates a shared understanding of local issues and enables everyone to have a say in the town’s future.

Lakes Entrance CBD Improvement Project
