School holidays are approaching, so it’s time to plan a road trip with the kids, a cooler bag and a picnic blanket.

East Gippsland Shire Council has teamed up with some of the region’s most delicious and delightful travel spots to allow you to create your own trail weaving through East Gippsland – perfect for a super-tasty food-focused road trip.

East Gippsland is a foodie paradise, filled with farm-fresh, mouth-watering experiences, boutique wineries, fields blooming with beautiful flowers and artisan goods.

Love Where it’s Grown, Caught, Made is about celebrating local produce and the people who make it with a series of farm gate trails and local produce promotions – and, starting this week, our region’s producers and farms will be waiting to welcome you.

Of course, Love Where it’s Grown, Caught, Made will also be at the East Gippsland Field Days on 8-9 April 2022. Look for the Love Where it’s Grown, Caught, Made stall, where Council staff and local producers who are on the farm gate trail will be waiting to talk about the program.

Jenny Di Cecco, of Orbost Florist, says the Love Where it’s Grown, Caught, Made farm gate trails are about more than just her Orbost florist shop.

“We joined the program to promote what’s available in the region. It’s a good chance to let people know what’s available to buy and do in our area,” Ms Di Cecco said.

Foodies can also find local products at Visitor Information Centres. All eight centres stock a selection of products that are unique to their region – and they are offering a free Love Where it’s Grown, Caught, Made cooler bag to the first 50 people who drop in to Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale VICs and the first 25 people who visit the other centres after March 28.  

“We’re committed to supporting our local farm gates and we want to see more local produce on everybody’s plates,” Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said.

“Our VICs are stocked with foods and goods made in the shire, so they’re a great place to shop for that special item. But don’t stop there. Grab a cooler bag, create a farm gate trail map and head off the highway to meet the growers and makers,” Cr Reeves said.
