East Gippsland Shire Council is working on a new Road Safety Strategy and is seeking feedback from all road users through an online survey.

The survey aims to identify priority areas for safety improvements and to get a better appreciation of the conditions and circumstances encountered by all road users, including drivers, riders and pedestrians.

The survey will be the first stage in the development of the new Road Safety Strategy that will be launched in 2022.

General Manager Assets and Environment Fiona Weigall said Council is keen to get as much feedback as possible from road users to help identify, and address, road safety issues.

“In the last five years, crashes on our roads have resulted in 260 serious injuries and 30fatalities. It is important to bring those numbers down,” Ms Weigall said.

“We can analyse crash data and tap the knowledge of our engineers and Victoria Police. However, we also want to find out what road safety issues are important to you and where you feel there might be opportunities for improvement. We encourage everyone to have their say.”

The survey can be completed on our website. It includes questions about why and how you use local roads, frequency, how safe you feel when on local roads and paths, and an opportunity to rate how safe roads are and give feedback on speed limits.

The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and will be used to write a strategy that works for the community. No personal information will be recorded or retained.

The survey closes on 21 January 2022.
