Landfills, Transfer Stations (Tips) and Trailers

East Gippsland Shire Council operates a total of 28 waste management facilities in our region; 3 landfills, 15 transfer stations and 10 trailer sites.

Conditions of entry to all Landfill/Transfer station sites

  • All vehicles / visitors must report to the weighbridge or office prior to depositing waste or entering further on to the site
  • All visitors and customers must obey advisory signs and/or directions from Staff
  • Scavenging, entry onto waste piles or removal of materials is not permitted
  • Children / animals / pets must remain in vehicles at all times
  • Enclosed footwear must be worn at all times – no bare feet
  • No smoking or lighting of fires permitted
  • All loads should be cover to prevent spillage

 

Sort your load

Before you go to a landfill or transfer station, sort your load. Clearly separating your load can reduce the fees and make unloading much quicker.

 

Sort your materials into:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium
  • Hard plastic (HDPE, PET and PVC) bottles and containers
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Cardboard (flattened)
  • Metal
  • E-waste
  • Concrete, bricks, masonry
  • Green waste
  • Gas bottles
  • Batteries   

 

The Tip Shop

Do you have stuff you don't want or need anymore?

Anything that can be used again can be taken to the Tip Shop to keep our stuff from being wasted in landfills. The Tip Shop is located at the Bairnsdale Landfill and is a great place to source second-hand items.

 

Hard waste voucher

Households get one hard waste voucher with their rates notice. Vouchers are valid for 1 cubic metre of hard waste per voucher. 

If your voucher was not included with your annual rates notice please contact Council's Waste Department. Property owners should pass on vouchers to their tenants.

· Lawnmowers – no fuel or oil

· Empty paint tins – lid removed

· Furniture

· Carpet and linoleum

· Kitchenware

· Mattress - single only

· Hot water systems

· Home improvement items eg. cupboards, sinks, fittings

· Glass and mirrors - wrapped

NOT accepted

· Asbestos

· Green waste

· Gas bottles

· Building waste(eg. bricks, rubble)

· Household waste

· Commercial waste

· Liquids

· Hazardous items – chemical or medical

· Tyres

· Fencing material

If you have used your voucher and have more hard waste, you must pay the disposal costs.

     

 

Transfer Trailers

There are 10 Transfer Trailers throughout the region. Transfer trailers are available for residents who live in remote areas as a drop off point for their household waste. Only domestic waste is accepted in these trailers.
