For the second-year running, the small coastal community of Marlo has been named a finalist in the Victorian Tourism Industry Council's Top Tourism Towns Award and this year, the community is aiming to go one better and take out the win.
The final ten per cent of the award score is decided by public vote, which means every single vote counts. A strong community response could make all the difference in helping Marlo claim the title.
This nomination is the result of a collaboration between East Gippsland Shire Council and passionate community members from the Marlo Ratepayers and Residents Association, who have worked hard to put Marlo on the map.
"The Marlo community is thrilled to be named a finalist again this year. We're incredibly proud of this town and love every chance to celebrate it – and what better way than showcasing everything it has to offer through an award like this," Shayne Boyd, President, Marlo Ratepayers and Residents Association, said.
And there is plenty to showcase. Here's why Marlo deserves your vote.
Tucked at the end of Marlo Road, where the Snowy River finally meets the sea, Marlo is one of East Gippsland's most treasured destinations. It's a landscape of genuine natural significance, one of Victoria's most spectacular river mouths, and a community that has remained authentically, quietly itself while the world has kept moving.
Whether you're a keen angler, a lover of nature, or simply enjoy the kind of unhurried, unspoilt character that is increasingly hard to find today, Marlo has it all.
East Gippsland Shire Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said Marlo's second consecutive finalist placing reflected the pride and dedication of the local community.
"Marlo is one of East Gippsland's true gems. The combination of a remarkable natural environment, a rich local character and a passionate community make it a place people remember long after they've visited.
"Being named a finalist for the second year in a row is a real testament to the people who have worked so hard to showcase everything Marlo has to offer. Now we're asking everyone across Victoria to get behind Marlo and cast their vote. We'd love to see this outstanding community take out the title in 2026."
Voting is open now and closes at 5pm on Friday 26 June 2026, and it takes less than 60 seconds to complete.
