East Gippsland Shire Council is bringing more comfort and versatility to two of the outdoor areas at the Bairnsdale Library.
The improvements –scheduled to start this Thursday 10 September – include the installation of two modern louvered roof structures.
The project will see the construction of a new louvered roof over the outdoor area on the east side of the library adjacent to the front stacker doors, as well as a second structure within the western courtyard area. These additions will provide improved weather protection, shade, greater comfort for visitors and increased flexibility for outdoor library activities and community gatherings throughout the year.
The improvements will support a wider range of outdoor activities and help make the library an even more welcoming community destination.
To enable the works to be undertaken safely, sections of the affected outdoor areas will be temporarily closed to the public. Construction is expected to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
The library will remain open and fully operational throughout the construction period. Visitors can continue to access library services, programs, and facilities as normal, with only minor disruptions expected in the immediate work zones.
Once the roof structures have been installed, minor follow-up works will be carried out to reinstate surrounding surfaces and landscaping, which may result in continued restricted access to these areas for a short period.
Council is partnering with local business Shadeworks to deliver these improvements, supporting local employment and drawing on local expertise to enhance a valued community facility.
