The East Gippsland Aged Friendly Strategy assists Council to implement an age-friendly approach to population ageing, as developed and encouraged by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Age-friendly cities and communities and the Victorian Government, Age Friendly Victoria.

East Gippsland Seniors Festival

East Gippsland Shire Council is proud to present the 2025 Seniors Festival.

Throughout October, our region will come alive to connect, create and celebrate seniors month. With more than 60 free and low-cost events spread across our shire, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, from creative workshops and art exhibitions to live performances, health and wellbeing activities, come and try days, morning teas, dinners and luncheons.

Whether you’re revisiting a lifelong passion, trying something new for the first time, or simply looking to meet new people, our festival is designed to spark joy, build connections, and support healthy and positive ageing.

Highlights include the much-loved free Seniors Concert starring Glenn Starr with classic hits from the 60s on Monday 13 October along with a wide range of local activities hosted at our libraries, service centres and community hubs.

Police Seniors Register East Gippsland

The Police Seniors Register East Gippsland is a crime-prevention and community care initiative by Neighbourhood Watch and Bairnsdale District Police to achieve a safer and more confident local community. 

Why register?

When you register on the Police Seniors Register your details will be entered on a confidential computer database.

You will receive an identity card linked to the information you give us on the application.

Whether out shopping locally, travelling interstate or overseas, in the event of an emergency, the person attending can contact the Police Seniors Register to ascertain your next of kin, your doctor and any health problems you may have.

If you live full time in East Gippsland Shire, you can find more information and complete an application to join the Register.

Elders Rights Advocacy

Elder Rights Advocacy supports older people, their families and representatives in Victoria to address issues related to Commonwealth-funded aged care services.

The service is free, independent and confidential.

Seniors Rights Victoria

Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) is a specialist Community Legal Centre and is a member of the Victorian Federation of Community Legal Centres and the national association, Community Legal Centres Australia.

Seniors Rights Victoria advances the rights of older people and works to prevent elder abuse.

The service provides free information and referrals, legal advice and legal casework on matters specifically related to elder abuse, to any Victorian aged 60 and above, or to any Indigenous Victorian aged 45 and above.
