Green Waste
The following fees apply:
- Green waste items UNDER 0.3m diameter (such as tree stumps and logs): $15 cubic metre
- Green waste items over 0.3m diameter (such as tree stumps and logs): $229 /cubic metre or $322 / tonne
- A ‘No Fee’ green waste disposal period takes place in November to help residents prepare for the bushfire season.
Recycling
It is free to dispose of recyclables. Recycling is paper, flattened cardboard, glass containers, steel cans and hard plastic containers.
Recycling must be free of contamination. Please remove all packaging and strapping.
Electronic Waste
It is free to dispose of electronic waste.
This is any item with a battery, plug or cord.
Electronic waste has been banned from entering landfill since 2019.
Gas Bottle
Disposal of a gas bottle (10kg or smaller): $12
Steel and White Goods
Fridges and freezers: $11 to cover cost of degassing
Other white goods and steel items can be disposed of free of charge
Batteries (Sorted)
Disposal of sorted batteries is free.
Motor Oil
It is free to dispose of motor oil.
Polystyrene
It is free to dispose of polystyrene.
Dead animals can only be disposed of at Bairnsdale Landfill.
Small animal: $11
This includes dog, cat. lamb, calf under 4 months.
Large animal: $301 tonne
This includes sheep, cow, horse.
The Bairnsdale Landfill and participating transfer stations now offer FREE recycling of textiles thanks to UpCycle4Better.

By sorting your waste before heading to the Bairnsdale Landfill or local transfer stations you can save money.
Loads that are sorted into recyclables, green waste, and general rubbish are often cheaper to dispose of than mixed loads.
Many items can be disposed of for free, such as cardboard, batteries, metal, or garden waste. So you can help reduce landfill costs and support local recycling efforts.

Customers are charged per load size. Therefore, if the trailer is not full, you will only be charged for the space the ‘load’ is taking up in the trailer.
Tips
Sort your load by:
- Clearly separating your recyclables from non-recyclables streams (ie: general waste, steel, polystyrene, cardboard, recyclables, etc). Mixed loads will be charged at the applicable rates.
- Condensing your load down as much as possible.
- Checking ahead to determine what is accepted at each facility and what can be recycled.
- Packing your trailer so the attendant can easily see what is in your load.
Remember to:
- Secure your load with a net, tie-down straps, or ropes before heading to a Waste Facility to prevent the risk of littering on route to waste transfer site.
- If you have any questions, call the site ahead of time, the attendants will be happy to provide advice on how to sort your load.
Ratepayers receive two FREE Disposal Vouchers with their Annual Rates Notice.
- One (1) FREE disposal – Green Waste via voucher (up to 1.5m3) to value of $21
- One (1) FREE disposal – Hard Waste via voucher (up to 1m3) to value of $65
