Alcohol free zones
Most towns in the shire have designated ‘alcohol free zones’. Drinking alcohol in these areas is banned at all times.
Public places where alcohol may not be consumed.
New Year’s Eve ban
Drinking alcohol in public places is banned between sunset on 31 December and sunrise on 1 January. This applies throughout the shire.
Advertising signs or goods for sale on Council roads or land
You are not permitted to place any advertising sign or goods (including motor vehicles) on display or for sale, on a road or council land.
Camping
You are not permitted to camp on public land unless you are in a registered camping area (such as caravan park) or have obtained a council permit.
Litter
Fines apply for littering. Council encourages residents and visitors to ‘Do The Right Thing’ and dispose of litter appropriately.
Parking on nature strips
Under the Road Safety Road Rules 2017 (Victoria), stopping or parking on a nature strip in a built-up area is generally prohibited unless a specific exemption applies.
Our focus is on public safety, maintaining pedestrian and vehicle access, and protecting our infrastructure. Vehicles must not obstruct footpaths, driveways or sight lines, interfere with the safe movement of traffic, or cause damage to nature strips or underground infrastructure.
Where a vehicle is parked on a nature strip but does not create asafety risk, obstruction or damage to infrastructure, we may exercise discretion in determining the appropriate compliance response.
Our discretionary approach should not be interpreted as permission to park on a nature strip. An infringement may still be issued where a vehicle is parked contrary to the Road Safety Road Rules 2017. Victoria Police may also enforce these requirements independently of Council.
We may take enforcement action where vehicles create safety concerns or obstructions, damage infrastructure, or where other parking or registration offences are identified. Residents are encouraged to park vehicles wholly within their property where possible, or otherwise park legally on the road.
Making a complaint
When making a complaint, you may be asked to provide your name, address and phone number. This information is required to substantiate the details of the complaint and to enable us to provide you with an outcome of any action taken.
In serious matters, you may be required to provide a sworn statement to support an investigation.
We treat all information received from complainants as confidential and holds it in strict confidence. Your details will only be disclosed with your consent or if the matter proceeds to court.

Noise
Lawnmowers, power tools and other similar equipment can only be used between 7.00 am and 8.00 pm Monday to Friday or between 9.00 am and 8.00 pm on weekends and public holidays. For more information please visit the Environment Protection Authority website.
Shopping trolleys
We may impound shopping trolleys or any item that encroaches on or obstructs the free use of a road or our land.
