Most proposed building work must have a building permit prior to construction. A building permit is a document issued by a building surveyor that allows building work to occur.

In East Gippsland, private building surveyors issue these permits. Information sourced directly from the VBA regarding Building Permits and when they are required can be found on their website.

Private building surveyors are also responsible for issuing occupancy permits, certificates of final inspection and conducting mandatory site inspections. Many private building surveyors may also be able to assist you in a variety of other services, such as:

  • Building condition reports
  • Essential Safety Measures – reports/maintenance logs
  • Demolition permits
  • Swimming pool registration & inspections
  • Liquor license reports
  • Pre-purchase property inspections
  • Bushfire Attack Level assessments
  • Retrospective building certification
  • Building non-compliance rectification
  • General consultancy

Whatever building-related plans you have, we recommend engaging a private building surveyor to assist you to achieve your objectives in line with building legislation. A list of professional consultants who operate in the East Gippsland area and may be able to assist you with your building development has been provided below.
