We propose to realign the locality boundariesof Metung, Nungurner, Nyerimilang and Boole Poole to facilitate the creation of a new locality, Mosquito Point.
The location and extent of the proposed boundary changes are shown on the map below.
The red line indicates the proposed new boundaries, which will enable the creation of the Mosquito Point locality and address anomalies in the current locality boundaries.
The broader community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.
Background
A request was received from Ambulance Victoria to create a distinct locality for the area commonly known as Mosquito Point. Establishing a unique locality will assist emergency services and other responders to more easily identify and locate properties in the area, distinguishing them from other properties on the sparsely populated Boole Poole Peninsula.
As all areas of the Boole Poole Peninsula are accessible only by water, creating a dedicated locality for the peninsula's most densely populated area, Mosquito Point, will help reduce confusion and minimise delays during emergency response situations.
To establish the new locality, the boundaries of Metung, Nungurner, Nyerimilang and Boole Poole will need to be adjusted. As part of this process, we also propose creating clearerand more logical locality boundaries for all affected areas.
Other than the properties located in the new proposed locality of Mosquito Point no other properties' localities have been affected.
The above proposed locality creation adheres to the Naming Rules and the Australian and New Zealand Standard for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
Submissions
This proposal complies with the Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.
Affected property owners/ratepayers/occupiers have been consulted regarding the renaming proposal and now Community members are invited to respond to this proposal before its formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria.
