East Gippsland Shire Councillors will be in the Twin Rivers district on Tuesday 29 September as part of their Council in the Community program, providing residents and businesses with opportunities to meet directly to discuss local priorities.
The visit will include stops in Bruthen, Johnsonville and Metung, with a focus on dropping in on businesses and hearing firsthand about local opportunities and challenges.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said Council in the Community visits were an important way for Councillors to engage directly with residents, business owners and community groups across the shire.
"These visits provide valuable opportunities for Councillors and Council officers to get out into our communities, listen to local perspectives and better understand the issues that matter most to residents and businesses," Cr Ashworth said.
"We are committed to being a business-friendly council and creating opportunities to connect with local businesses, hear about their successes, challenges and aspirations, and identify how Council can support economic growth across East Gippsland."
The day will begin in Bruthen with Councillors to take time walking through Bruthen's main street and visiting local businesses.
A community lunch at the Twin Rivers Men's Shed will provide an informal opportunity to see what the Men’s Shed offers and to have an informal chat with Councillors and senior staff.
In Metung, there will be a business drop-in session at The Local and a community walk along the boardwalk (meeting at the yacht club), providing an opportunity for residents to join Councillors in discussing local issues and opportunities onsite.
Councillors will also visit other businesses and projects across the Twin Rivers district, including at Swan Reach and Nicholson.
"The Twin Rivers district is home to vibrant communities, passionate volunteers and resilient local businesses," Cr Ashworth said.
"We look forward to hearing directly from community members about what's important to them and how we can continue working together to make these communities great places to live, work and visit."
Council in the Community visits are designed to strengthen relationships between Council and local communities through open conversations, on-the-ground engagement and direct access to decision makers. More information on the program and to RSVP see below.
