Trail naming proposal – Lakes Entrance

The walking trail extending from the Cunninghame Arm footbridge west along Esplanade to Bullock Island, around the path on Bullock Island, back to the skate park boat ramp, under North Arm Highway bridge along Marine Parade, left along Barkes Avenue, Rowe Street, Bulmer Street to Devitt Street, left along North Arm Avenue and Lambert Street to Myer Street, right along Myer Street back to the footbridge to be named ‘Waterfront Walk’.

The majority of the trail follows the waterfront along Esplanade, Bullock Island, and Marine Parade. There are no name duplication issues with surrounding trails, roads, or tracks.

Background
All road, tracks and trails that are open to public or services shall be named. This assists the public, emergency services, and other service providers to accurately identify and locate places.

Council has an obligation in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989, the Geographic Place Names Act 1998 and associated guidelines to ensure public safety and responsible service delivery to the community.

The above proposed trail naming adheres to the Naming rules for places in Victoria– Statutory requirements for naming roads, features, and localities - 2022 (the Naming Rules) and Australian New Zealand Standards for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.

Submissions
This proposal complies with the Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022.

Community members are invited to respond to this proposal before its formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria. Council will advertise the results of this consultation in due course.
