Council is proposing to name an unnamed laneway in Mallacoota ‘Muddie Lane’. The location and extent of the road proposed to be named are shown below.

The extended community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.
Background
The laneway extends south from the Betka Road/Maurice Avenue roundabout toward the Mudbrick Pavilion, then east to provide access to the sports ground and the rear of Maurice Avenue businesses.
Naming this laneway is in accordance with Section 3.3 of the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022 (Naming Rules).
Section 3.3 states: “All roads, whether they are public or private, should be named and registered in VICNAMES and Vicmap. This facilitates accurate addressing and location identification across Victoria. Therefore, any land course navigable by vehicle or foot should be officially named according to the naming rules.”
The name ‘Muddie Lane’ was selected following feedback from a community forum and formal endorsement by the Mallacoota Halls and Recreation Reserve Committee of Management.
The proposed road naming complies with the Naming Rules and the Australian and New Zealand Standard for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
