Council is proposing to name an unnamed laneway in Genoa ‘Candlebark Lane’. The location and extent of the road proposed to be named are shown below.

The extended community is invited to provide feedback on this proposal.
Background
The lane extends from Alexanders Road and provides access to two properties.
Naming this lane is in accordance with Section 3.3 of the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2022 (Naming Rules).
Section 3.3 states: “All roads, whether they are public or private, should be named and registered in VICNAMES and Vicmap. This facilitates accurate addressing and location identification across Victoria. Therefore, any land course navigable by vehicle or foot should be officially named according to the naming rules.”
Name origin
The name is derived from a tree species native to Far East Gippsland – Eucalyptus rubida, commonly known as Candlebark or Candlebark Gum. It is known for its smooth white bark that peels in strips, often revealing red or green blotches.
The proposed road naming complies with the Naming Rules and the Australian and New Zealand Standard for rural and urban addressing AS/NZS 4819:2011.
