East Gippsland Shire Council is helping local hospitality and retail businesses support visitors with a new suite of free, easy-to-use visitor information materials.
A series of posters, stickers and magnets featuring a QR code and web address that link directly to the new Visit East Gippsland website and the digital Official Visitor Guide (OVG).
The Digital OVG can be downloaded as a PDF and used offline, making it a handy tool for visitors travelling through areas with limited mobile reception or data access.
Materials have been designed to act as a simple digital information point for businesses, allowing staff to quickly direct customers to maps, attractions, dining, events and essential visitor information, without needing to field every question at the counter.
Mayor Jodie Ashworth said the initiative was about making things easier for both businesses and visitors during the peak summer period.
“Our local businesses are often the first stop for visitors looking for information,” Cr Ashworth said. “These posters and stickers give staff a quick, reliable way to point people in the right direction, even when phone reception is patchy.”
The materials will also be displayed on the front windows at several Council service centres that will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period, ensuring visitors can still access up-to-date local information.
Local businesses and community members can collect the free materials in coming days from the following locations:
• Bairnsdale Corporate Centre and Visitor Information Centre
• Lakes Entrance Visitor Information Centre
• Lakes Entrance Service Centre and Library
• Paynesville Service Centre and Library
• Orbost Visitor Information Centre
• Bruthen Visitor Information Centre
• Mallacoota Visitor Information Centre
• Omeo Service Centre
• Bairnsdale Library
• Swifts Creek Community Centre
• Cann River Service Centre
• Mobile visitor information van
Businesses are encouraged to display the posters or stickers in shop windows, at counters or near entrances to help visitors easily plan their stay and make the most of everything East Gippsland has to offer.
