New toilets for Paynesville’s Gilsenan Reserve
Date of Issue:
February 16, 2026

Paynesville’s Gilsenan Reserve is getting an upgrade, with construction of a modern public toilet facility beginning in March. The project, delivered by East Gippsland Shire Council, is expected to be completed by June 2026.

The new amenities will support users of the playground and skate park, and visitors to the regular market events held at the reserve. Importantly, the facility has been designed to be accessible and inclusive.

The facility will include:

• One accessible toilet with baby change facilities.

• One unisex toilet with ambulant-compliant fixtures.

• One accessible parking space.

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the upgrade is a practical improvement for everyone who enjoys the reserve.

“Gilsenan Reserve is a hub for community events, families and visitors,” Cr Ashworth said. “This new facility will ensure everyone can enjoy the reserve comfortably and safely.

“The project has been carefully planned to fit seamlessly within the reserve, with no existing trees or shrubs needing removal. We’re delivering facilities that respect both the community and the environment,” she added.

Cr Ashworth also highlighted the Council’s commitment to ongoing communication during construction: “We appreciate the patience of local residents and visitors. Safety signage and site management will be in place, and we will continue to provide updates via our YourSay page and social media as the works progress.”

Construction will be managed to minimise disruption, the playground and skate park will remain open throughout the build, and Council is working closely with local groups to ensure the community is kept up to date.
