East Gippsland Shire Council is inviting the community to recognise the everyday heroes who give their time to support others, with the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll inductees for 2026 to be celebrated during National Volunteer Week (18–24 May).
National Volunteer Week 2026 carries the theme Your Year to Volunteer, honouring current volunteers while encouraging everyone to discover how volunteering can spark joy and purpose. It also aligns with the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, highlighting the role volunteers play in creating lasting, positive change.
Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the Honour Roll reflects the diversity and generosity of volunteering in East Gippsland.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community,” Cr Ashworth said.
“Whether they’re coaching junior sport, supporting emergency services, planting trees, fundraising, caring for others or serving on local committees, their contribution matters.”
“East Gippsland is a region where volunteering is deeply valued, and the Honour Roll allows us to shine a light on those who quietly make a difference.”
Nominations for the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll are open all year, so you can recognise a volunteer at any time, with the 2026 inductees celebrated during National Volunteer Week in May.
