Get cosy with Warm Winter Read
Date of Issue:
June 5, 2026

East Gippsland residents are being encouraged to embrace the colder months by joining the Warm Winter Read – a library reading program designed to inspire adults to build reading habits and discover new stories throughout winter.

Running until 31 August, the program invites participants aged 16 and over to track their reading online or through a paper journal, with prompts, recommendations and book suggestions to help keep readers engaged along the way.

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the program is a great way for the community to slow down, connect and enjoy the benefits of reading during winter.

“Winter is the perfect time to get comfortable, pick up a good book, and take some time for yourself,” Cr Ashworth said.

“The Warm Winter Read is a simple and enjoyable way to build reading habits, discover new authors, and make the most of what our libraries have to offer. We encourage everyone to get involved and explore the incredible range of stories available.”

Participants can register and log their reading at vic.readbooks.com.au/wwr, use paper reading journals available at local library branches, or explore East Gippsland Shire Library’s online catalogue and resources to find their next great read.

The program runs until 31 August, giving readers plenty of time to take part and enjoy the challenge.
