Community feedback sought on future of Lakes Entrance Summer Carnival
Date of Issue:
December 19, 2025

Community members are invited to have their say on a proposal to continue hosting the Lakes Entrance Summer Carnival at its current foreshore location.

An application will be submitted to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) for a Marine and Coastal Consent, which would allow the carnival to operate on the foreshore east of the footbridge from the 2026–27 summer season through to the 2032–33 summer season.

All use, development and works on marine and coastal Crown land require consent under the Marine and Coastal Act 2018. Securing long-term approval would support forward planning and infrastructure investment, helping ensure the carnival remains safe, enjoyable and beneficial for both the local community and visitors.

Feedback is being sought on the proposal to continue the carnival in its current location, as well as on opportunities to improve the event.

Community members are encouraged to share ideas relating to:

  • Event layout and design
  • Activities and experience offerings
  • Timing and duration of the carnival
  • Accessibility features to support inclusive participation

Community input will help inform Council’s application and guide future improvements to the carnival experience.

A collaborative approach will continue with Traditional Owners, stakeholders and the community to ensure the event reflects shared values, respects cultural heritage and responds to community feedback.

Feedback is open from 18 December 2025 until 26 January 2026 and can be submitted by:

  • Completing the online survey at yoursay.eastgippsland.vic.gov.au
  • Visiting a customer service centre
  • Calling (03) 5153 9500

The Lakes Entrance summer carnival is a popular attraction, providing family-friendly entertainment during the peak holiday period in one of our region’s most visited destinations.

The carnival includes amusement rides, food and drink stalls, accessible facilities, family-friendly pricing and a variety of entertainment options, while also supporting local businesses through the increased foot traffic along the foreshore.

The carnival returns to the Lakes Entrance Foreshore this summer from 26 December 2025 to 26 January 2026 operating daily from 6.00pm til late.
