Cr John White, pictured below with wife Leanne, was last week recognised for 10 years of service as a councillor by the Municipal Association of Victoria.
John was first elected to East Gippsland Shire Council in 2016, is currently serving his third consecutive term, and has served as Mayor with two different council groups - 2024-25 and 2019-20 (during the Black Summer Bushfires and Covid-19) - and as Deputy Mayor in 2018-19.
Reflecting on the recognition, John said it has been a real privilege to serve as a councillor for the past 10 years.
"I’m incredibly grateful for the trust the community has placed in me and for the many people – Councillors, staff and the community – I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside," he said.
“Ten years certainly goes quickly. I’ve seen plenty of challenges and change over that time, but what has remained constant is the passion people have for their communities and for East Gippsland.”
John has represented Council on multiple committees and advocated on behalf of the community at regional, state and federal level.
“My commitment has always been to work to ensure Council remains focused on local priorities and continues to provide value for ratepayers.”
Congratulations John!
