Current Status:

Council has embarked on an exciting journey to plan for the future of East Gippsland. To help this process we are seeking expressions of interest from community members to join the Council’s Community Panel to be engaged on the review of the Long-Term Community Vision and the development of the Council Plan 2021-25.

What is a Community Panel?

The Community Panel is a group of people who will sign up to share their ideas about the future of East Gippsland. They will be actively involved in a series of engagement workshops and at the end of the process present their recommendations to Council. The panel will comprise approximately 12-15 people who represent a range of community perspectives from different demographics, sectors or interest groups within the East Gippsland. The panel will work together to review the Long-Term Community Vision and assist the Councillors in shaping the new East Gippsland Shire Council Plan for 2021-2025.

What is a Long-Term Community Vision?

The Community Vision establishes the longer-term key shared priorities, aspirations and values for East Gippsland. The vision helps to guide decision making by Council and the community by articulating what we want East Gippsland to be.

What is a Council Plan?

The Council Plan is a key medium-term strategic plan and should reflect the outcome of stakeholder and community engagement. The Council Plan describes the strategic objectives, ways to achieve the objectives, indicators for measuring progress and the resources required to implement the plan for four years.

The current versions of these documents can be accessed from the documents listed in the side panel.

What is involved in being on the panel?

To participate in the Community Panel applicants must be available for the series of seven workshops. Attendance can be in person or online. The full commitment is expected to be approximately 14 hours, with workshops over March and April predominately held of outside of business hours and on Saturday mornings.

Will I receive any payment to cover costs?

To recognise the time and effort invested by panel members, and offset costs to participate, each member will receive a $150 one-off payment at the end of the process.

Requests for other assistance to support participation will also be considered on a case-by-case basis for selected panel members (for example, transport).

What are the benefits of joining the Community Panel?

The benefits of being on the Community Panel are that you will improve outcomes for your community by giving feedback from your perspective as a community member, you will become better informed about the Council decision-making process and the matters Council is consulting the community on.

How do I express my interest in joining the Community Panel?

To express your interest in being part of the Community Panel, please complete the questionnaire below. This will need to be completed prior to Sunday 14 February 2021. People will be informed if they were successful or not by Friday 26 February 2021.

With this application you will be asked some demographic questions about your age, gender, ethnicity and if you have a disability. Knowing a little about people on the panel helps us ensure we are talking to the diverse communities who make up East Gippsland. This information will not be used for any other reason outside of selecting a representative panel and will be confidential.

Support can be made available for accessibility for people to participate, for example but not limited to; translators, mobility support, travel, hearing loops. If you require any form of support, please make notice of the details in your application form.
