Planting or replacing nature strip trees - have your say

Street trees

We are planting or replacing nature strip trees across the shire in coming months and years, and will soon be inviting select property owners to tell us whether they would like one planted outside their property.

Well-chosen trees play an important role in any town, are critical in maintaining the health and liveability of our townships and create a long-term sustainable vision for the character and amenity of every community.

The species of trees chosen will be based on:

  • Site conditions including utilities (power, water, gas etc.), soil profile and space available
  • Existing vegetation in the locality
  • Future-proofing for expected climate changes
  • Minimising ongoing maintenance requirements for Council

When planting in your street is proposed you will be contacted regarding species and placement.

Howitt Avenue, Metung - Streetscape Planting

East Gippsland Shire Council is planting and replacing trees each year across the shire.

The species of trees chosen is based on:

  • Site conditions including utilities (power, water, gas etc.), soil profile and space available
  • Existing vegetation in the locality
  • Future-proofing for expected climate changes
  • Minimising ongoing maintenance requirements for Council

Howitt Avenue was chosen for this project following customer requests for nature strip planting and the opportunity to plant a full streetscape at the same time.

We are inviting select property owners to tell us if they want Council to plant on their nature strip as part of this project.

Please follow these instructions to view the Howitt Avenue plan and provide your approval / disapproval.

Click on the map here and find your property

Next to your property, look for the marked red dots. Each red dot represents where a nature strip shrub will be planted.

If you support this project, then you do not need to do anything further and Council will include your property in the project.

If you do not want a plant on your nature strip, then please contact Council’s Open Space Planner, Marc Taylor, on 5153 9500 or email feedback@egipps.vic.gov.au to advise of your disapproval by Friday 27 January 2023.
