Domestic Wastewater

Information about septic tank system permits, treatment plants and composting toilets.

You need to get a permit from council before you install or alter any part of a septic tank system.


You then need to get a permit to use the septic system before it is used and an occupancy permit obtained.


You need a permit for all wastewater systems in unsewered areas (including septic tanks, treatment plants and composting toilets).


Septic tank application kit. 


Send your septic tank application form to Council with:

  • the fee for either installation or alteration
  • a plan of the location of the site
  • a site plan of the proposed installation
  • a copy of the land capability assessment report 
  • copy of certificate of conformity (Aerated wastewater system only) 

2019-20 Fees:-  
Install a septic tank system application $589.00
Alter a septic tank system application $294.50
Install composting toilet application $294.50
Renew permit to install $235.00
Search for septic tank plans   $24.00
