Raymond Island signs on for upgrade

Thursday 10 January

The thousands of summer visitors flocking to one of East Gippsland’s most popular tourist destinations – Raymond Island – are being greeted by a new and informative sign.

East Gippsland Shire Council has worked with the Raymond Island Community Association, Landcare and others to update the main tourist sign on the Island, only a few metres from the ferry terminal.

The sign details the Island’s history, the traditional owners, ferry, boating, fishing and swimming, wildlife, and much more, including an easy-to-read map.

Council funded the new sign, used a local sign writer to complete the work and the design is in line with other major town signs. It replaces an out-of-date sign, but retains the Koala Trail sign on the opposite side.

For those wanting to explore the Island’s attractions or spot a koala this summer, the ferry runs frequently from Paynesville and is free for those on foot or riding a bicycle.
