Free Seniors Week concert will rock your socks off

Tuesday 10 September

Seniors Week celebrations will once again have a full program of events during October including a fabulous free concert by Lonnie Lee on Thursday, October 10.

A morning tea will be held at 10.30 followed by the rockabilly show at 11am until 12.30pm at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre. Lee has a natural knack of transforming relatively staid songs into something spectacularly sexy, with throats-a-rumblin’ and sharp shoulders twitchin’ to the rhythm that will see your body bop and boogie all day long.

A bus is available, picking up in Orbost, Nowa Nowa and Lakes Entrance. Seating is limited, reserve your seat when booking on 5153 9500. Bookings are now open.

Lonnie Lee said his show brings everything into one authentic songbook, which I enjoy performing very much.

“I identify with all the songs I sing, as if they’re my own, as they’re close to mine and my audience’s hearts. I take my live shows very seriously and am quite well-known for changing my shows and incorporating fresh material so that my audiences don’t get bored,” he said.

“I’m so very appreciative of the fact that people, after so many years, still come to my shows. I feel blessed to be healthy and able enough to still do what I love the most; and that is to sing.”

Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said the festival is an opportunity for us to celebrate East Gippsland’s Senior population.

“Many members of our senior community look forward to this day every year. We have one of Victoria’s highest per capita populations of ageing people, with almost 40 per cent of the population expected to be over 60 years by 2020,” Cr O’Connell said.

“Council has developed a range of plans and strategies including the Ageing Well in East Gippsland, Age-friendly Communities Strategy 2017-2030. We have a priority for providing infrastructure and facilities that make getting out and about easier, living healthier lifestyles, and connecting within the community easier,” Cr O’Connell said.
