Community plans: have your say in September

Wednesday 04 September

District community plans developed by residents in conjunction with East Gippsland Shire Council will be open for public comment this month.

Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said residents of the Twin Rivers, Cann Valley and Errinundra to Snowy communities have worked with Council officers over the past 12 months to establish their vision and values, understand their community’s needs, identify existing assets and refine their priorities.

“The draft plans have been created from community input and ideas collected from a community survey and the 26 workshops held across the three districts,” Cr O’Connell said.

“Council thanks the community members of each district who have been integral to the creation of the plans and who have shown such dedication and passion for their ‘place’.

“Now, it’s time for community members to read their draft plans and provide feedback.”

More than 1,400 hours of community members’ time was committed across the three districts, including 153 people who attended a workshop, 236 people who completed a survey and 85 primary school students who took part in an activity.

Residents are invited to review the plans either online via the Your Say East Gippsland website, at a Customer Service Centre, or by visiting the mobile library service in remote communities. The plans will be open for comment throughout September.

Following the public consultation period, the final plans will be reviewed and go to Council for formal consideration.

To register for updates on the project you can visit the Your Say East Gippsland website and sign up to the ‘Council Connect’ newsletter for the district you live in.

This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund and is being run across the Cann Valley District, Errinundra to Snowy and Twin Rivers districts.
