Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool opens Saturday

Tuesday 26 November

The outdoor pool season has finally arrived, with Bairnsdale Outdoor Pool ready to open this Saturday, November 30.

East Gippsland Shire Council invites you to celebrate the start of the season with an open day from 12-3pm. The day includes free entry, a jumping castle and other activities. Barbecue items are available by gold coin donation.

Following on from the success of last year, an outdoor cinema event is planned for January 11 with a screening of Toy Story 4.

At Orbost, the gates swing open on Sunday, December 1 with a free swim day from 12–3pm. Bring along your favourite inflatable and join in the fun.

As in recent years, outdoor pool opening hours will vary based on the weather forecast.

The outdoor pools at both Bairnsdale and Orbost will be open:

  • 4-6pm on cold days (forecast temperature 23 degrees and below)
  • 3-7pm on standard days (24-34 degrees). Peak season (December 21 to January 31): 12-7pm.
  • 10am-8pm on hot days (35 degrees or more)
  • Lap swimming is available from 6–8am weekdays.

The outdoor pools are also included in Council’s Free Swim Friday initiative which provides free pool entry at all Council facilities from 3pm until close every Friday afternoon.

For information on season pass and casual entry prices, visit council’s website,

Council pools participate in the ‘Watch Around Water’ program which means:

  • Children under 5 must be constantly supervised by an adult who is within arm’s reach whilst they are in the water.

Children aged between 5 and 10 years must be constantly supervised by a responsible adult.
