Annual Report now available

Thursday 31 October

East Gippsland Shire Council’s Annual Report 2018-19 and Annual Report highlights video are now available on council’s website.

Mayor Cr John White said the video is an easy-to-understand summary of council’s work over the past year.

“The video is broken down into the five themes of our Council Plan and shows some of our achievements in each of these areas,” Cr White said.

The video includes statistics from the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework, a mandatory system of reporting set by the Victorian Government.

Some of council’s highlights in the 2018-19 financial year were:

  • Giles Street, Bairnsdale road extended and bridge constructed

  • Aquatic area redevelopment, Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre

  • Holding a Council meeting in Mallacoota, the first in the town for 22 years

  • Bairnsdale Airport winning the national ‘Small Regional Aerodrome of the Year’ award

The Annual Report details the shire’s activities, achievements, challenges and financial performance over the 2018-19 year and informs the community on how the commitments in the Council Plan 2017-2021 and annual budget were delivered.

“The Annual Report shows that we have many more responsibilities than only roads, rates and rubbish. As well as working on infrastructure and assets, people can see we have a significant role to play in the region’s social wellbeing - fostering vibrant, supportive communities is part of what makes East Gippsland a desirable place to live,” Cr White said.

The Annual Report also includes detailed financial statements that have been independently audited by the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office.
