Inclusive events and activities

Social Inclusion Week

Council is committed to making East Gippsland a leader in promoting and developing communities that value diversity and encourage belonging and understanding.

Social Inclusion Week is a School of Hard Knocks initiative that began in 2009. This year Social Inclusion Week is from 24 November - 2 December 2018.

The theme is CONNECT COLLABORATE AND CELEBRATE!

Council will again be developing a calendar of free local events, to celebrate and encourage people of all ages to join together and engage with the objectives of the week by attending a community activity.

The week aims to help Australians feel valued and to give people the opportunity to participate fully in society.

It's about connecting local communities, work mates, family and friends to build relationships and networks, addressing isolation and exclusion by supporting people who may be unable to help themselves.

The calendars will be available from council's Service Centres and its website later in the year.

Have Your Free Event Included in Our 2018 Social Inclusion Week Calendar

Events don't need to be organised on a large scale, it’s all about creating inclusive opportunities to connect and reconnect within our local communities. Organisers could design a specific Social Inclusion Week event, or activities could include existing programs and local activities that during this week are offered free of charge and promote Social Inclusion themes.

Since Social Inclusion Week began in 2009, there has been thousands of events take place across Australia, ranging from street parties to coffee mornings and to barbecues.

If you, a community group or local business is hosting a free inclusive event or activity in East Gippsland between the 24 November - 2 December 2018 and would like it included in our calendar, please email the event and contact details to council's Rural Access Project Officer rebeccap@egipps.vic.gov.au
