Australia Day Awards 2019 – nominations open


Nominations are now open for the 2019 East Gippsland Australia Day Awards.


Award categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year (under 27 years)
  • Community Event of the Year

We will present shire-wide awards which focus on those who have made a significant contribution to the region.


Strong nominations will highlight how nominees have:

  • Made a significant contribution in the current year or over a number of years.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership or are role models in the community.
  • Excelled in their field, for instance arts and culture, community service, sport and recreation, etc.
  • Benefitted the community (for the Community Event of the Year category).

Nominations close Friday 23 November 2018.


Nomination forms are also available at council's Customer Service Centres and Outreach Centres.

Australia Day is a day to celebrate your way. We support volunteer groups to host Australia Day celebrations in a number of towns.

26ers Club

The 26ers Club, run by the Australia Day Committee Victoria, is open to all Australians born on January 26.


Membership is free and includes a lapel pin, a birthday card every year and the opportunity to join in the cake cutting at the official Australia Day ceremony.
