Cr Joe Rettino

Cr Joe Rettino was elected to council in October 2016. He was Mayor in 2016-17 and 2017-18.


Joe has previously served in local government as a Councillor and Mayor of the City of Bairnsdale. He is also a former Chair of the East Gippsland Water Board. He has extensive senior management experience in the food industry spanning 25 years.


Prior to the food industry Joe was with Westpac for 10 years, working in all facets of banking and then finally in commercial lending.


Joe has a Diploma of Management, a Diploma of Human Resource Management and holds an MBA Federation Business School (Federation University 2020).


He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; the Australian Institute of Management; and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supply Australia International Affiliation CIPS UK.


He is also a certified professional with the Australian Human Resources Institute. Joe is currently working as a Human Resources contractor.


During his term, Joe is committed to working hard with his colleagues, including council staff, to make East Gippsland the best it can be.


Joe’s aim is to build a strong, cohesive shire with fundamental trademark behaviours built around Trust, Integrity and Loyalty.


He has a strong desire to see the region strong and successful. He has an interest in strategic economic development and networking.


Joe wants the whole community to feel proud of the region and send a very strong message that East Gippsland is ‘Open for Business’.


Cr Rettino served as a member of the following Advisory Committees and Working Groups in 2018-19:

• Audit and Risk Committee

• Economic Development Advisory Board

• East Gippsland Livestock Exchange Consultative Committee


Cr Rettino was a Council representative to the following external organisations:

• Municipal Association of Victoria - Representative

• Municipal Association of Victoria – Professional Development Reference Group
