Cr Colin Toohey

Cr Colin Toohey was elected to council in October 2016 and served as Deputy Mayor in 2016-17.


Colin was born in Bairnsdale and shifted to Melbourne as a young child. He returned in 1973 and finished primary schooling at Granite Rock Primary School.


Colin then attended Bairnsdale Technical School for two years before shifting back to Melbourne. He became a qualified fitter and turner and was employed in various other roles. Then the lure of the bush became overwhelming.


He returned in 1994 with his wife and children, two of whom were born here. Colin and his wife started their business, Top Trim in 1994 and now employ seven locals.


Colin is a past president and life member of Lindenow Junior Football Club. He served on Board of Management for the East Gippsland Art Gallery during 2014-15.


He is a L2P Driving Program mentor, which assists learners under 21 years of age gain driving experience. Colin volunteers for the Bairnsdale Rotary ‘Days for Girls’ program and was awarded a Bairnsdale Rotary ‘Paul Harris Fellowship Award’ in 2016.


He has a passion for things automotive which is why, amongst other things; he takes such an interest in the region’s roads. Residents need safe and well maintained roads in order to remain connected in our large community.
