Orbost Skate Park works to commence

Thursday 12 October

A major refurbishment of the Orbost Skate Park will occur in the lead up to the summer school holidays.

East Gippsland Shire Council says tenders will be called in coming weeks for the new facility, which will see the replacement of the existing steel ramps with contemporary concrete elements.

Shire Mayor Cr Joe Rettino said the current facility was aging and didn’t provide people with an inviting place to enjoy.

“In its current state, the facility doesn’t encourage further visitation by the wider community,” Cr Rettino said.

“We recently asked Orbost residents for feedback on draft concept plans that showed a mid-term option

“We collaborated with Victoria Police to share the consultation material within the Orbost community and encouraged the town’s young people get involved in the consultation process.”

The design has now been finalised based on the consultation and the site will be closed from Monday, October 16 to allow removal of the old equipment.

It is anticipated that construction will commence in November (dependent on tender approvals) and be completed before Christmas.
