‘Correct weight’ for East Gippsland Livestock Exchange

East Gippsland Livestock Exchange has been given the ‘correct weight’ call following its annual full scale weight calibration test conducted last week.

This procedure, conducted by Gippsland Scales, involves a series of one ton weights positioned on the weighbridge of both scales, gradually building the weight to the limit weight of 10 tons.

Saleyards supervisor, Terry Dervusoski, said to pass the test the scales cannot be out by more than 7.5 kg over the 10 ton limit.

“l am pleased to say that the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange passed again with flying colours, with both scales well under the tolerance,” Mr Dervusoski said.

“With over 30,000 prime cattle weighed and sold through the Exchange within any one year period it is essential the scales are 100%.”

The East Gippsland Livestock Exchange has received strong endorsement from its users in a recent customer satisfaction survey conducted by East Gippsland Shire Council.

In September 2011, vendors and buyers who had traded at the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange within the last 12 months were asked to rate their perceived satisfaction and the perceived importance of the facilities and service.

The results of the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange survey indicate high consumer satisfaction with the facilities and service levels.

According to the survey results, customers are most satisfied with the appearance of the saleyards, livestock well being, the food selections at the café and the laneways and selling pens being clean and free of rubbish.
