About the awards

Australia Day awards are presented annually to local citizens and community groups that have made an outstanding contribution to the East Gippsland community.

The awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and administered by East Gippsland Shire Council. There are also local Australia Day awards presented in towns throughout East Gippsland. These awards are supported by Council and administered by community groups.

Please see an example of the nomination form.

The strongest nominations will highlight how nominees have made a significant contribution, to their town or East Gippsland as a whole, in the current year or over a number of years; have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills or are a role model; and excel in an area of arts and culture, sport and recreation, community service, business or the environment. Strong event nominations will highlight how the event benefits the community.
