Australia Day

Get in the spirit - Australia Day is on the way

 

Here's what you have to look forward to by celebrating Australia Day 2017 in East Gippsland.

 

 

 

2017 Events

 

Bairnsdale: Breakfast 7.00 - 10.00 am, Main Street Gardens Rotunda.

 

Bruthen: Breakfast 9.00 - 11.00 am, Main Street Gardens.
               Wet weather venue: Mechanics Hall

 

Lindenow: Breakfast at Lindenow Hall 7.30 - 8.30 am.
                   Ceremony at Amy Shand Park from 8.30 am.                             

 

Mallacoota: Breakfast at Mallacoota Hall 8.30 am. Followed by games and a ceremony.

 

Lakes Entrance: Breakfast 8.00 - 11.30 am, Mechanics Hall.

 

Orbost: Breakfast 7.30 am, Forest Park. Official proceedings begin 9.00 am.
             Wet weather venue: football clubrooms         

 

Omeo: Breakfast 8.00 am, Courthouse Gardens. Official proceedings begin 9.00 am.
            Wet weather venue: Shire hall

 

Paynesville: Breakfast 8.00 - 9.00 am on the foreshore near Progress Jetty.
                      Official proceedings to follow.
                      Wet weather venue: Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club

 

 

About the awards

Australia Day awards are presented annually to local citizens and community groups that have made an outstanding contribution to the East Gippsland community. The awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and administered by Council.

 

The strongest nominations highlight how nominees have made a significant contribution to their town or East Gippsland as a whole.

 

This contribution may have been in the current year or over a number of years. They may have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills or are a role model.

 

Nominees can be from any field, some ideas are arts and culture, sport and recreation, community service, business or the environment.

 

Strong event nominations highlight how the event benefits the community.

26ers Club

The 26ers Club, run by the Australia Day Committee Victoria, is open to all Australians born on January 26. Membership is free and includes a lapel pin, a birthday card every year and the opportunity to join in the cake cutting at the official Australia Day ceremony. Register by completing the form.
