Good Access is Good Business
Could your business be missing out on customers because you don't provide the access they require?
In Gippsland, 32,500 people have a disability and will decide where to shop, do business or visit tourist destinations based on how easy they are to access and the quality of service provided. When you add the number of older residents who may have difficulties with mobility, sight and hearing the number rises considerably. East Gippsland Shire Council has worked with five other local government areas to produce the regional Good Access is Good Business guide, to assist businesses to improve access for all customers.
The guide includes simple steps to improve your accessibility and advises business of their legal obligations. Download the guide from below.

International Day of People with Disability
December 3 is International Day of People with Disability (IDoPwD). The day is sanctioned by the United Nations and aims to support the dignity, rights and well-being of people with a disability.
Council values the contribution that people with a disability make to our community and actively seeks to celebrate and showcase such achievements. The Colour Gang, Noweyung and the East Gippsland Shire Council worked in partnership to create the Colour Gang Postcard Project (PDF 4.28mb), as part of IDoPwD celebrations. The postcards celebrate “Ability” and the right of people with disabilities to be valued as artists.
Rural Access Project
What is Rural Access About?
Rural Access is about communities working together to plan and develop strategies which will increase community membership opportunities for people with a disability.
How does Rural Access work?
It will assist the community to include people with a disability and their families by:
- Creating Partnerships
- Providing Community Education
- Developing and implementing projects
- Including the needs of people with a disability in future community planning
- Supporting service providers
- Develop ways for people to access information about services, community activities and issues
- Consulting and including people with disabilities in the above activities
